Hypertension update: beyond cilazapril-plus

Hypertension is estimated to affect 1 in 5 New Zealanders and is a significant contributor to heart disease, kidney failure and stroke.

Whilst a common finding in primary care, optimal treatment is often NOT achieved.

To effect optimum hypertension management, we need to consider blood pressure in the context of cardiovascular risk and other co-morbidities.

Hypertension specialist Dr Hari Talreja will discuss the most relevant aspects of hypertension management in this latest update, including treatment threshold, goals of treatment and alternative antihypertensive regimes now that cilazapril with hydrochlorothiazide is no longer funded.
