Vaping: All your questions answered

Dr Hayden McRobbie presented on the hot topic of vaping, covering the details around its use, potential benefits and harms as well as outlining the relevant regulations. This is your chance to have any questions answered around vaping in our communities and individual patients, as well as hear the evidence around the recommended advice we should be giving as primary care practitioners. Hayden will discuss:

  • What is vaping and where does it feature in our communities?
  • Is vaping less harmful than cigarette smoking, and what are the risks associated with using a vaping device?
  • Does vaping help people quit smoking or is it just another addiction?
  • What regulations around vaping do GP’s need to know about?
  • How do we incorporate vaping into smoking cessation discussions?

Hayden McRobbie

Health behaviour change expert

Professor McRobbie has a medical degree with a PhD in medical psychology and over 16 years experience in the provision of behaviour change interventions in the fields of smoking cessation and weight management.

Hayden has played a key role in the implementation of the Tobacco Health Target in New Zealand and is a consultant to the Tobacco Team at the Ministry of Health. Hayden is the current Raising Healthy Kids Target Champion and has also been involved in the development and delivery of a weight management programme that was designed to help underprivileged groups achieve a healthy weight. 

Professor McRobbie provides technical and clinical advice to healthcare organisations, NGOs, and governmental departments on smoking cessation and weight management, in New Zealand and internationally, and services on numerous expert bodies, committees, working groups and conferences. He is Assistant Editor of Addiction, Deputy Editor of the Journal of Smoking Cessation, and a member of the Society for Research of Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT).
