The MercyAscot ENT and Head & Neck team – the specialists from ENT Group and Auckland Head & Neck Specialists (who all have consulting rooms at Mercy Specialist Centre) presented their second interactive education session and update on ENT and Head & Neck.

Salil Nair
ENT Surgeon

Salil is a British-trained ENT surgeon based at CMDHB and provides a complex rhinology service at Auckland City Hospital. He completed his Rhinology fellowship in Adelaide and after 10 years as a consultant in the UK, migrated to Auckland in 2011. He holds an honorary senior lecturer position at the University of Auckland and teaches internationally on numerous sinus surgery courses.

Melanie Collins
ENT Surgeon

Melanie is a British- trained ENT surgeon based at North Shore Hospital. She completed an Otology fellowship in Adelaide and after 10 years as a consultant in the UK migrated to Auckland in 2011. She is interested in managing ear problems in all age groups from newborn to the elderly. She is trained in the use of lasers and endoscopes in middle ear surgery.

Rajan Patel
ENT Surgeon

Rajan Patel is a British-trained ENT surgeon, who completed three years of Head and Neck Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship training in Sydney and Toronto.  Rajan was appointed to his public appointment at ADHB when he immigrated to New Zealand in 2009. Rajan’s clinical interests include cancers and tumours of the skin, mouth, thyroid, salivary glands and neck.

Mark Izzard
ENT Surgeon

Mark Izzard is an ENT surgeon with a specialist interest in Head and Neck Surgery, Reconstructive Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery having completed Fellowship training at Greenlane Hospital and the University of Seattle. Mark has a public appointment at ADHB, where he is involved in the training of fellows and registrars.

ENT Group

ENT Group comprises Melanie Collins and Salil Nair who have extensive experience in providing a general ENT service for adults and children, with subspecialty expertise in Otology (MC) and Rhinology/anterior skull base /lacrimal surgery (SN). They hold appointments at hospitals across the Auckland region and an academic position at the University of Auckland. They play an important role in teaching and training of both GPs and ENT surgeons and regularly contribute to the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology H&N Surgery meetings.

Auckland Head and Neck Specialists

Auckland Head & Neck Specialists (AH&NS) comprises Mark Izzard and Rajan Patel, who offer specialised management of patients with head and neck disorders, including oral, neck and thyroid lumps; complex reconstruction of head and neck defects; and facial plastic reconstruction. Mark and Rajan established AH&NS in 2011 and have developed strong collaborative links with oncology services at Mercy Hospital (Auckland Radiation Oncology and Canopy Cancer Centre) and are members of the Auckland Regional Multi-Disciplinary Head and Neck Oncology team based at Auckland City Hospital.
