About this Course
Migraine is a common and disabling primary headache disorder and one of the conditions most frequently seen in primary care.
After completing this module, clinicians will be able to:
- Describe the underlying pathophysiology of migraine and understand how this informs treatment selection.
- Identify when to start migraine prophylaxis and tailor therapy according to comorbidities, contraindications, and patient preferences.
- Compare the efficacy, tolerability, and practical use of established oral agents with newer options such as CGRP monoclonal antibodies and gepants.
- Apply current evidence to the prescribing, monitoring, and discontinuation of prophylactic medications, with attention to safety considerations (e.g. reproductive status, co-morbidities, constipation).
- Integrate lifestyle, supplements and non-pharmacological measures to optimise outcomes and reduce the risk of medication overuse.
