Dr Anna Lawrence talks about hot topics in Urology. Anna is a New Zealand trained Urologist and is the current president of Continence NZ.

Anna's goal is to increase the education and standard of reconstruction in neuro-urology, thereby improving the care of conditions and improving the quality of life for patients.

Take home messages

  • Antibiotic guidelines have changed. Nitrofurantoin is now first line.
  • D-mannose and high water volumes are useful for preventing recurrent UTI’s, as is vaginal estrogen in the perimenopuse and beyond.
  • All woman from perimenopause onwards should have vaginal and uretheral estrogens.
  • There are many more treatments for Overactive bladder. If your anticholinergics aren’t working then refer for specialist assessement early.
