Contraception and AUB Theoretical and Practical Workshop

Speaker
Session Date:

Workshop: 9.00am - 4pm.

Spaces are limited to 32 participants. Book early.

Lunch, morning and afternoon tea are provided.

While a range of effective contraceptive options is fully funded by PHARMAC, uptake and access to long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) is still a work in progress. Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is the commonest cause of referral to secondary care, yet most cases can be managed in the community with appropriate training and support.

Led by Dr Orna McGinn, this interactive tutorial is aimed at primary healthcare professionals with a special interest in women’s health and will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of the provision of contraception and the diagnosis and management of AUB.

Practical sessions will cover the basics of insertion techniques for intrauterine devices (copper and hormonal) and contraceptive implants using supplied models, as well as a demonstration and practice of endometrial biopsy.

There will also be an update on LARC training, including the process to become a trainer, and plenty of time will be set aside for Q&A on both topics.
