Stay in your lane or showcase your skills? The case for special interest GPs
Speaker
Session Date:
Unlike in Australia and the UK, no formal training, funding, framework, or recognition currently exists for GPwSIs (GPs with special interests). At the same time, hospital waiting lists for conditions that could be assessed and managed in the community are growing.
Many GPs have taken the initiative, setting up clinics in the community helping patients with complex women’s health issues, CFS/ME, ADHD, breastfeeding medicine, musculoskeletal issues and more.
In this session, we take a look at what the barriers and enablers are to developing special skills; what the future could look like; and how developing special skills benefits both your patients, yourself and potentially the whole system.
