Te Whatu Ora presents Te Tiri Whakāro: Sharing Knowledge, a webinar series to support primary care. In this webinar we will cover:

  1. Best gout management: Prof Stamp will discuss recent evidence for the best management of gout. The primary focus will be on long-term management with urate-lowering therapy and what constitutes “treatment failure” and how to manage treatment failure.
  2. Weight management tips for next Monday: Dr Rinki Murphy will discuss practical aspects of weight management, including medication options, what lifestyle modifications are required and how they fit into modern obesity care. Take home: How to initiate a weight management conversation, how to select and monitor obesity medications, how to deal with setbacks.
  3. Clinical updates with Dr Sue Tutty.

Lisa Stamp

Academic Rheumatologist

Professor Stamp is an academic Rheumatologist at the University of Otago, Christchurch and Health New Zealand |Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury, New Zealand. She is also the National Clinical Research Lead for Health New Zealand. Lisa is Director of the Canterbury Rheumatology Immunology Research Group.

Her research interests include individualisation of drug treatments in rheumatic conditions, particularly gout and rheumatoid arthritis and epidemiology and treatment of vasculitis. Her clinical research includes clinical trials, pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic studies, particularly related to allopurinol and methotrexate, and the newer biological therapies. She is also involved in laboratory and genetic studies examining the inflammatory mechanisms in gout and rheumatoid arthritis. Professor Stamp has over 250 peer-reviewed publications.

She is the recipient of the Arthritis New Zealand National Researcher Award and the Gold Medal for Research by the University of Otago, Christchurch. Lisa was elected Ngā Ahurei a Te Apārangi, Fellowship of Royal Society Te Apārangi in 2023.

Rinki Murphy

Endocrinologist

Rinki is an Auckland-based endocrinologist specialising in diabetes and obesity.  She is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Auckland, where her research is focused on understanding genetic and broader risk factors for diabetes and obesity, and studies in precision medicine approaches for improved management.
