Cameron Schauer is a Gastroenterology Consultant at North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals, and also practices in private at Waitemata Endoscopy.
He is half German and half Chinese, was born in Japan, but grew up in Whangarei. He completed his medical training at Auckland University, and has worked in hospitals around the North Island. In 2019 he was the first New Zealander to be awarded a fellowship role in Tokyo, Japan learning advanced endoscopic resection techniques such as endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) to treat early GI cancers minimally invasively without requirement for organ resection.
He is undertaking a PhD in prevention, early detection and treatment of early gastric cancer in New Zealand. He is a lecturer at home to his 3 young children, and also at the University of Auckland to the 2nd Year Medical students.
