Stigma and discrimination have a look but eating disorders do not

David and Brittani will discuss the impact of sigma and discrimination on those with eating disorders who live in larger bodies.

David’s presentation will describe the impact of KPI ‘s around BMI getting in the way of a GP’s ability to engage with those living in a larger body in order to screen for an eating disorder.

Brittani’s presentation will touch on the effects of colonisation and Māori body sizes, question the appropriateness of bariatric surgery for Māori whānau, and get participants to think about hidden eating disorders that are more likely to affect Māori.

David and Brittani will provide skills to help health professionals engage with those living in larger bodies that may have an eating disorder.

They will provide an overview of resources available for use in primary care which support the needs of those with eating disorders.
