When the pills won’t work – male sexual rehabilitation from the perspective of the mind/body continuum

Session Date:

The mind/body continuum is crucial in achieving an enjoyable sexual experience.

The concept of male sexual dysfunction (with its unintended pathologising effects on normal variants and occurrences during the male sexual function) will be criticised and abandoned during my talk in favour of the concept of male sexual rehabilitation. In fact, too often we are faced with the issues of men who were pathologized and treated with purely physical and pharmacological interventions, without any sexological assessment and intervention. Very often, the pills then won’t work and men will be labelled or self-identify as “failures” and “hopeless cases”.

I will review and re-examine under this light frequent conditions such as erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory disorders, hypoactive sexual desire, chronic genital/pelvic pain, and a specific problem affecting men who practice receptive anal sex (anodyspareunia).
