Angela Bayly

Consultant Bariatric Surgeon

Ko Angela tōku ingoa. Nō Taranaki me Kawakawa ōku tūpuna. Kei te noho au ki Tāmaki Makaurau. I am an Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon at Te Toka Tumai Auckland. I grew up in rural Aotearoa New Zealand and undertook my undergraduate training at the University of Auckland. My SET training placements provided me with broad general surgery experience across the North Island. I then undertook 3 years subspeciality training in UGI and Bariatric surgery at high volume tertiary centres; firstly, as part of the team at Te Toka Tumai Auckland and then in Sydney at St George Public Hospital and St George Private Hospital (the highest volume bariatric unit in Australia). A focus of my training was the surgical and endoscopic management of complex complications of UGI and bariatric surgery.

This year I returned to Te Toka Tumai Auckland to re-join the UGI & Bariatric Surgery team as a consultant surgeon. I am excited to be part of a bariatric service that has delivered measured improvements in health equity for Māori and Pacific people. My surgical practice focuses on laparoscopic surgery for the management of malignant and benign oesophago-gastric conditions and bariatric surgery; general surgical conditions such as abdominal wall hernia and cholecystectomy; and general acute surgery and trauma care as part of the ASU team. I look forward to extending my practice into private alongside my colleagues in the coming months.

I am a mum of two primary aged children and an energetic dog! I run to keep fit and I love summer holidays camping beachside with my family.
