Emma Sherwood

Public Health Physician

Emma is a public health physician in the national protection directorate, and was interim Regional Clinical Director for Te Waipounamu, and a Medical Officer of Health at Te Whatu Ora National Public Health Service – Southern. Originally from the UK, she now lives in Wānaka with her husband (a GP) and two tamariki.

With a background in paediatrics, Emma has experience in a range of roles in the UK and other countries, including leading the UK’s COVID-19 therapeutics programme, the health response to the invasion of Ukraine, and co-authoring the UK’s technical review of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her research interests include communicable disease control (Group A Streptococcus and COVID-19), refugee, and global health.
