Helen is a Nurse Practitioner and the Nurse Leader of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Service at Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua/MidCentral, Palmerston North and is an Academic Supervisor for the Massey University Nurse Practitioner Training Programme.
Helen also undertakes panel assessments for Nursing Council NZ of registered nurses seeking registration as nurse practitioners. Helen has been a longstanding member and Executive Committee member of the New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD) and was the President from 2020-2022.
During her time as President, among other initiatives, the NZSSD developed the national guidance for the management of Type 2 diabetes, now incorporated into Community Health Pathways, to support primary health care to provide consistent evidence informed care for people with diabetes.
