Acute vs chronic joint pain: sorting the urgent from the wait and see

In this session, Jacob Munro and Tim Godwin will provide an overview on:

  • How to differentiate traumatic injuries from degenerative conditions.
  • Which imaging is required and when to order X-ray vs MRI.
  • What are the urgent referral red flags, and covering conditions from septic arthritis, avascular necrosis, to occult fractures.

Hip, Knee, Foot & Ankle Orthopaedic Surgeon

Jacob specialises in hip and knee joint replacement, especially complex primary and revision surgery. He has an interest in managing hip problems in young patients and perform reconstructive procedures and arthroscopy in the public system.

Jacob covers all aspects of orthopaedic trauma at Auckland City Hospital and specialises in fractures of the hip and lower limb and fractures around hip and knee replacements. He also treats general foot and ankle pathology.

Timothy Godwin

Orthopaedic Surgeon: Hip, Knee and Pelvis Specialist

Timothy Godwin is a triple fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon based in Auckland, specialising in hip and knee replacements, complex revision surgery, pelvic trauma, sports injury management, and arthroscopic knee surgery.

He has trained both in New Zealand and internationally, completing advanced fellowships with world-leading experts at the Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Newport Beach, California and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Timothy brings the latest surgical techniques and evidence-based care to deliver exceptional outcomes for his patients.
