Are you biased? Does it matter?!

How bias can impact clinical consultations.

Dr Chris Reid is a Northland general practitioner, educator and photographer. In this webinar he outlines how subconscious and conscious bias can impact your consultations and questions whether this is a bad thing.

Unconscious bias refers to a bias that we are unaware of and is influenced by our background, cultural environment and personal experiences. It happens as our brain automatically makes judgements and assessments of people and situations. Conscious or explicit bias refers to the attitudes and beliefs we have about a person or group on a conscious level. As health professionals this can influence how we practice and how we respond to our patients.
