Managing anger (repeat)
We encounter people who are angry in our roles as healthcare providers.
Although there are many reasons for this such as illness and frustration with the healthcare system, managing these interactions can feel unfair and challenging. Ongoing situations of conflict can be a driver for burnout.
Learn some strategies to manage angry interactions to assist you to 'respond' rather than 'react'. This will include reflecting on your own tendencies under fire and considering the need for assertiveness and boundaries.
A framework for managing anger will be outlined, along with phrases that you might choose to adopt. Participants will not be asked to engage in role-play. The last part of this session will briefly touch on ways to manage your own emotional response after managing angry interactions - as practical self-care strategies are an important part of this topic.
