Turning the tide: Early detection of GI cancers
Speaker
Session Date:
Gastrointestinal cancers are the most common category of cancers in New Zealand and the world. Every day, 17 Kiwis are diagnosed with one of these cancers that includes stomach, liver, pancreatic, bowel, oesophagus and gallbladder.
Despite exciting and novel advancements in management my sense is that with this overwhelming tsunami of patients: younger with more late stage disease – we need to pivot to consider prevention and early detection. Is this even possible? How realistic is this in a busy primary care setting? Come to hear honest reflections, hard truths, some dismay, encouragement and optimism and ultimately perhaps a few practical ideas, readily implementable so we can chip away at this problem together.
