GLP-1 Agonists & eating disorders: Clinical promise, psychological risk, and prescribing in context
GLP-1 agonists are increasingly prescribed in primary care, yet their psychological risks for individuals with eating disorders or disordered eating remain poorly understood.
This workshop provides a brief overview of current knowledge on GLP-1 medications through an eating disorder informed lens, with a particular focus on their interaction with interception, appetite regulation, and relapse risk.
Using clinically grounded case studies, the clinic will consider how appetite-suppressing medications may inadvertently reinforce eating-disorder psychopathology, especially in binge-eating and subthreshold presentations.
The session provides practical guidance on screening, risk assessment, and collaborative care to support safer and more ethically informed prescribing decisions.
