Cheryl is the Head Geriatrician at Age Brightly. She is a dual-trained Geriatrician and General Physician who has dedicated her career to supporting older adults to live well, with dignity and purpose. Since qualifying in 2013, she has worked as a Geriatrician across Waitematā and Te Tai Tokerau in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, bringing a compassionate, holistic approach to care. Cheryl’s clinical interests include stroke rehabilitation, cognitive health, reablement and palliative care, and she also provides specialist Geriatrician support to a large aged-residential care organisation.
Throughout her specialist career, Cheryl has held a range of clinical and educational leadership roles, reflecting her longstanding commitment to excellence in the care of older adults and the development of future physicians. As Clinical Director for Older Adults at Waitematā (2018–2022) she led major service developments, including establishing Integrated Stroke Units at North Shore and Waitākere Hospitals and expansion of the community-based reablement Interim Care Service. A steady and strategic leader, Cheryl guided the Older Adults service successfully through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a profound impact on the care of older adults in the Waitematā region. Thoughtful, collaborative and values-driven, Cheryl brings deep experience in service development, clinical governance and person-centred models of care that help older adults thrive.
