Veronique Nicolaou

Specialist Physician and Endocrinologist

Veronique is a specialist physician and endocrinologist, and a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa (MBBCh, 1992). She completed her training in internal medicine and subsequently her fellowship in Diabetes and Endocrinology (2014). She worked full-time at an academic hospital as a specialist physician and endocrinologist from 2011 to 2018, during which time she was actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and the supervision of endocrine fellows.

She relocated to New Zealand with her family in 2021, where she worked at the Northland District Health Board Hospital and served as an honorary lecturer for the University of Auckland. She has recently moved to Auckland, where she continues to contribute to her role supporting the Northland community, and has also commenced private practice at Allevia Hospital in Epsom, Auckland.

Veronique has a strong research background. She completed her Master of Medicine (MMed) in 2014, focusing on thyroid disorders in pregnancy, and later her PhD (2021) in gestational diabetes and maternal health. She has published numerous papers and continues to engage in research and reviewing papers for publication.

Her clinical interests include thyroid disorders, thyroid ultrasonography and fine-needle aspiration of nodules, calcium and bone metabolism, osteoporosis, and women’s health.
