Wal Baraza is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon with expertise in bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor disorders.
He completed his specialist training in the United Kingdom and Auckland City Hospital. He worked for 7 years as a consultant surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, UK. He moved to New Zealand in 2022 to take on a similar role at Auckland City Hospital as well as a senior lecturer position at the University of Auckland. He also has an interest in education and medicolegal representation.
He has a strong belief in putting the patient at the centre of care, empowering patients to make informed decisions and the role of the multidisciplinary team including medical associate professions (PAs).
